Rebecca Minkoff NYC Fall Sample Sale Report & Finds :)

This morning I woke up at the crack of dawn to be first in line at the Rebecca Minkoff sample sale. When I peeked inside it looked a little sparse. I ran into an owner outside smoking and he told me that they were expecting a shipment. When I checked in my coat, my check number read #1 LOL. The VIP preview wasn't all that exciting but what came later was so much more fun.

As always, I headed right for the samples. They were all priced at $50 regardless of size or damage. They had lots of tape marking small flaws. Most of the larger totes had broken handles but there were some hidden gems to be found. They had colorful zipties on all sample bags.

I was a little disappointed at the condition of most of the bags on the tables but I was informed that more samples in better shape were due to arrive later in the day.

I then headed to small leather goods where I found plenty of cute pieces for $25. For these items you had to refer to the pricing sheet but most of the pieces in the bins were $25 or $55.

All of the following were just $25:

After a little digging I stepped to the left to shoes (priced $50-100) where they had a very sad selection. They also had a few sample size shoes for $50 but nothing exciting. A little birdie told me that they would be getting a shoe shipment on Wednesday. Might have to pop back to check it out.

I usually don't tempt myself by looking at full price bags but I saw someone put down this fringed Kinga clutch and I ran to snap it up. Turns out it was a runway piece priced at $395 so it would have been $185 (that's almost four sample bags!) so I put it back. Holding it is the super cute Shira of A Sequin Love Affair who shopped with me until she had to head to work.

Here are more full priced bag pics from the sale. Most were $125 thru $405.

I'm a total sucker for her fringe so I had to snap a pic of this $895 Rylan tote for $405.

They had a small corner with Ben Minkoff bags too.

The best deal for clothing (no samples) was the $200 leather for sure. These babies were selling like hotcakes. At most sample sales stock leather starts at $250 so these were a steal.

The clothing was priced from $25 to a T shirt and maxed out at $200 for the leather. Outerwear at $125 was pretty popular too.

I then circled back to accessories where I found $10 jewelry and $25 hats and scarves. I grabbed a couple fur scarves because the retail was a whopping $398! By the time I took this pic they were cleared from the shelves.

I did hang around for several hours and that's when the magic happened. After their shipment arrived, they kept putting out new samples so I patiently waited and scored tons of great stuff. I always bring empty tote bags to sample sales just to lug around my haul. I highly recommend the IKEA totes. Here is a sneak peek of some of my finds!

I'm linking up a bunch of discounted Minkoffs that I found online - just in case you can't make it to the NY or LA sales :)

    1. The Rylan tote is less than $250 on the Barney's Warehouse site. Hopefully no one gets suckered into buying it at the sample sale!

    2. They probably will :( People get caught up in the excitement and think they are getting a good deal when in fact sometimes you do better elsewhere. That's why I just stick to the sample for this one.

  4. Never even heard of sample sales. Interesting.

I'm not a huge shopper or into purses, but we've been attending purse bingo recently. It's a lot of fun

    1. I went to college in the City for I've been hitting sample sales for over 20 years now. It's such a great way to find designer goods for Target prices. Totally addictive. What's purse bingo?

  6. Great haul! I'm still trying to decide if I want to go to the sale.

By the way, I got here through the TPF thread about the RM sample sale, I'm JuneHawk there. As a side note to the sale thing, I just wanted to say that it is refreshing to find a fashion blogger with whom I can identify. Most are young 20 somethings, which is fine, but I love seeing more women like me with families, children, older than 21, etc and drawing inspiration from them. I love your blog.

    1. You need to go. I was just informed that samples went to $10 tonight.

And thank you. It's funny because all my blogger friends are in their twenties and I always feel like the old lady of the group LOL. But as much as I'd like to kid myself that I fit in with them they have not a clue what it's like to be 40+ with responsibilities like kids, husband, bills, etc. Fashion isn't just for 20 year olds and most of the "mommy bloggers" my age are still talking about poopy diapers or how they DIY their house. My blog helped me find my voice again and I truly appreciate all my readers - so thank you for your kind words and positive feedback.

    1. Lucky you - get over there ASAP! I'm not sure they even produced that bag so it's a one of a kind - didn't see anything else like it but you should go and see what turns up. Say hello if you see me there :)

    2. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it into the city until Sunday! Are there any other sample sales going on on Sunday that you know of? I see this one ends on Saturday.

    1. Samples and damages were obviously the best deals but you can refer to the price lists above - as of yesterday it was an additional 20% off the pricing on the lists. I'm sure there will be further discounts on the last day. HTH and good luck!

  9. First, I should tell you I am the one on PF that went to Rent the Runway Warehouse sale last week. So, today at 2:30 I decided to take my girls and my mom to this sale! I think my wallet really hates you right now! But, thank you for sharing and for your blog which gave me the inspiration to go. We got in in the last hour and the prices were insane:
    Small bags were $65
    Med were $75
    Large were $85
    Sneakers $25

I spent too much but it was like BOGO since I would have spent double yesterday. I did buy a few gifts and only have one pink bag regret but DD "had to" have it. Thanks again!

    1. I saw prices were crazy on the last day - but I already went 3x and had enough anyway LOL. It's so easy to overspend when prices are that low...

    2. Hi - I saw you wanted a leather jacket for your DD -what size and what's your budget? Any specific color/style?
