L.K. Bennett $20 sample sale haul - and more Rent the Runway scores :)

For off-season, last Thursday was a doozy. First I stumbled upon the Rent the Runway sale and then I got an urgent text to head into the City for a secret L.K. Bennett Sample sale. I own a few L.K. Bennett pieces (both thrifted and from the Rack) but nothing terribly exciting. Normally I probably wouldn't have blinked but when I heard everything was under $30 it was time to run.

I've been rocking my new ASOS dress that I just picked up for $27. I ordered a small and medium (this is the small) but I wish I ordered the X-small. It's too boxy but I'm gonna keep it because my super modest mom would approve - and I need something to wear when I visit her.

Outfit details:

Sunglasses: Moschino, Century 21, $60 (free with rewards) - see similar here.
Necklace: JES Design Studio, $60 (free from Instagram giveaway) - see similar here.
Dress: ASOS Monki Hanky Hem Festival T-Shirt Dress, on sale for $27 (was $45)
Bracelet: AV Max cuff bracelet, sample sale $5 - see similar here.
Bag: Balenciaga Velo, Nordstrom Rack, around $300 after my Nordstrom Notes (retail $1835)
Shoes: Crocs Sexi Flips, $14 (after coupons), Kohls - see similar here.

And now back to the sample sale. Everything I got was $20. I saw boots for $30 but everything else was less. Most of the clothing was tiny or huge so there was nothing for me. I did grab this $425 floral satin Lichen dress for $20 because I have a couple clients that are size 2. Their stuff runs narrow so I would have needed at least a 6.

At least I got lucky in the shoe department! All pictured are size 40 except the black heels which are 41. I needed them once the showroom girl told me Beyonce was just shot in them. They're too big so if my SIL doesn't want them they will be in my next blog sale (also got an extra in 36). If you were a 41, 42 or 36 they had mountains in your size. I had to dig for my 40s. Pictured here are $2665 worth of shoes that cost me a whopping $120. Score!

Now for a closeup. Bey's $450 Angie gladiator sandals. They also had them in gold.

My $445 Jolie's are the perfect neutral with a pop of color. Love.

I wasn't sure about these $495 Leah sandals because they are a little damaged (the strap holder is the back broke) but I figured it was a quick fix. I'm not sure why I was being so picky. People were looking at me like I was nuts for putting back shoes that I didn't love.

I spotted these as soon as I walked thru the door. I dug thru several boxes to finally find my $425 Lydia platform wedges. I actually needed silver sandals and these fit the bill perfectly.

I've been looking for a pair of pointy heels in this color. I would have liked pink and blue too but they only had the yellow in my size. I guess these $305 Florete heels were meant to be.

And last but certainly not least, I pulled apart every box to find these in my size. I still yearn for a pair of Sophia Websters but for $20 these $545 Summer sandals will make a great substitute. Who am I kidding? I still need you Sophia.

Went back to Rent the Runway and it turns out they replenished (despite telling me they weren't going to). This $475 Salsa Dance dress by Haute Hippe was just $10 because it was missing the belt, had a couple light stains and a tiny tear that was neatly mended. For $10 I can deal.

I also took home this $470 Milly Golden Lurex Flutter dress for $31.80. It was also missing the belt and the gold was coming out in a bunch of spots but it's really flattering on.

So once again, my closet is busting. Me thinks it's time for another blog sale...

Forget Renting the Runway...now you can buy the runway.

On my way to a shopping date yesterday, I decided to stop by the Rent the Runway warehouse outlet in Secaucus, NJ. And now is when I admit that I've been holding out on you. I've known about it for a while but I've been keeping this little known gem to myself. When I arrived, it was busier than usual - turns out they have 40% off the entire store this weekend only!!! Bottom line, I stood up my shopping date.

The Rent the Runway outlet is only open Thursday thru Sunday and is chock full of gently worn goods for a fraction of retail. Some pieces are better priced than others. When I found out they had an additional discount it was a game changer. Even at their NYC sample sale discounts max out at 50% off. This is the first time they are offering 40% off at the outlet - Black Friday was only 30% off! Trust me, this is a much better deal than the sample sale because they have a parking lot, tons of attendants to assist you and a very comfortable changing room. As busy as it was, it wasn't as overwhelming as the NYC sale. Not to mention, no tax on clothing in NJ!

As always, I was greeted by racks and racks of gorgeous dresses and gowns.

I looked across the room and spotted this Moschino Barbarella bag that was marked $369 plus 40% off. Then I got a closer look and it was filthy. There were peanuts jammed inside and gum on the outside. I asked about further discounts and they said unless it's severe, all items are as-is. We all kinda agreed it was pretty bad but the only person who could approve the additional discount was temporarily out. They put it on hold for me until they could check.

Now for the good stuff! $2570 Barbara Bui leather jacket for $403 less 40%??? Yes, please. They only had an XS and it was snug so I left it :(

I'm a sucker for a leather jacket - scoop up this $1390 size petite Helmut Lang one for $218 less 40%. I also noticed some cropped short sleeve Moschino leather jackets and Red Valentino leather dresses - all really well priced.

I overheard a woman purchasing this Erin by Erin Fetherston Garden Dress (they have several) - she took it just in case she had a fundraiser in a garden LOL. For $44 less 40% (was $325) it's easy to dream up scenarios for these gorgeous inexpensive dresses.

They had racks of Herve Leger dresses and some for under $200 before discounts! They are all a little stretched out so I would recommend sizing down. How beautiful is this $1690 Volcanic Explosion Sheath? Now $226 less 40%!

For some reason Clover Canyon is sooo cheap there. Maybe because it doesn't launder well but I can handle a few imperfections for these prices. Can you believe this $270 Indigo Dream dress is $18.60 after discount??? I grabbed one for me and and extra in XS.

I also took home this Clover Canyon $335 Lady Wilde dress for $40.20 after discount.

My nieces are gonna flip when they see this $368 BCBG Ola dress that I scored for just $29.40. It's an XS so I can squeeze into it so they may have to fight me for it.

Let's get back to accessories. I've been lusting after a Elizabeth & James bucket bag for a while. They had a larger one with the backpack straps but it was missing the top handle. This smaller version is complete and just $104 less 40% from $485!

If I didn't already have my Charlotte Olympia lip pouch I would have needed this cute Kate Spade clutch. Was $295, now $81 less 40%.

Loeffler Randall small tote was $395, now $80 less 40% - that's almost free in my book.

I walked around with this studded Loeffler Randall bag for an hour before passing. So tempting! Just $132 (was $395) less 40%. Has a bunch of faint scratches but for this price...

My daughter would DIE for this Moschino backpack but how many designer bags does an 8 year old need? Retails for $780 but you can get it for $170 less 40%!!!

Getting married? You need this Kate Spade Mr. and Mrs. clutch. Retails for $398 but you can take this lovely home for $83 less 40%. Has a few scratches but nothing too serious.

They had bins and bins of sparkly things but this Noctune necklace really popped for me. Retails for $310 but you can grab it for $81 less 40%.

Note the beads missing on the left. You really need to inspect everything you purchase.

I'm a clutch girl so I almost took few of these home but I resisted temptation. They had loads of designer bags under $100!

In the back, I spied a rack of $10 pieces! They all had issues but again, $10. The 40% does not apply to these items.

This $395 Mark & James metallic leather Vixen dress has seen better days but for $10 who cares?

I had shopped for about an hour when I got a text about a secret L.K. Bennet sample sale in NYC where everything was $5-30!!! I quickly paid for everything but the Moschino and drove right into the City. I probably should have headed home and then jumped on a bus because while it took 20 minutes to get into the City, it took about an hour to find free street parking. (You know I don't pay for parking.) It was the last day of the L.K. sale so I didn't bother taking pictures because I knew I wouldn't be able to share with you in time. Don't worry, I'll post my AMAZING haul sometime this weekend. After the sample sale I walked 30+ blocks to my car and drove back to Rent the Runway in NJ. I made it 3 minutes before they closed...and purchased my $1695 Barbarella bag for just $166.05!!!!!

Cutest bag ever!

The good news is that if you can't make it, you can email them to check availability and they can ship to you for $9.95 (UPS Ground) for most items but it may be more for a heavier package. I do recommend going if you can as most pieces show varying degrees of wear, so you really want to see what you're getting. Time for a fashion roadtrip, ladies!

Rent the Runway
100 Metro Way Secaucus, NJ 07094
Thur - Sat: 10am – 8pm Sunday: 11am – 6pm
No phone but you can email them at: warehouse-store@renttherunway.com
Credit/Debit only, all sales final.

I may be going back today - I'll see if I can resist the siren call of cheap dresses. Have a great weekend and happy shopping!

Momma's got a brand new bag (and new style!)

Everyone say hello to my brand new Alexander Wang large Rockie in Tangerine. OBSESSED. I love a pop of color but the pale gold hardware sealed the deal. Yes, that's my boxy $30 Stella McCartney dress - once again, it's really not working for me.

I saw this T in Forever 21 and thought it fit it here LOL.

But I digress, let's get back to the good stuff :) Scored my new Rockie at Nordstrom Rack. As soon as I walked thru the door I spotted it and assumed it must be a knockoff because it had been so long since they had anything good there. Did I mention the best part? It was only $310 (Retail $925)! Score! I wanted a Rockie for a while but was afraid it was too heavy (My major complaint for the Chloe Marcie as well) but it's really not so bad. Before you ask I already did a search and send and they are completely sold out company wide. Sorry.

I finally pulled out my $10 Red Valentino sparkly bow sandals (also from the Rack). Got these a while ago when they used to price things super cheap. I miss the days of their $5 & $10 shoes :(

Check out my new Forever 21 sunnies ($5.90) and AV Max mismatched statement earrings (on Amazon right now for $71.36 and I paid $4 at the sample sale). Necklace is by Gorjana, from Rocksbox. I really need to re-shoot these earrings because this was the best my 9 year old niece could do. (By now you know that I usually have a small child taking most of the pictures of me.)

Enamel cuff is House of Harlow 1960 from Rocksbox. I love Rocksbox - for $19 a month they send you 3 pieces of jewelry to "borrow" until you get bored and send them back for another set. If you fall in love with a piece you can purchase it at a discount (plus they give you $10 Shine Spend every month to use towards your purchases). You can get your first month free with code SHOPPINGGALXOXO - and who doesn't love free?

And last but not least...my new do! I've been keeping it from you because I had a bunch of pics with my old hair that I wanted to share first. I love it but for some reason my girls (and sister) don't. I think they just like long hair on me. I think this looks so much fresher and younger. The salesgirl at H&M the other day called me "sweetie" instead of ma'am-ing me. I'll take that any day :)

While I did like my old Bumble & Bumble cut, I hated the KMS Goldwell color. When they used words like beige and taupe I should have known something was gonna be wrong. Especially because I asked for pale, beachy blonde. I always use words like "lemony" when describing my ideal color. As a hair model you are usually at their mercy but some programs are better than others. For color, my favorite is L'Oreal Professionnel and I was lucky enough to snag a spot as a demo model for their Balayage class. The instructors had their way with me and made sure I walked out happy. At L'Oreal they really listen and deliver.

When I walked in I sat down for a consultation and told them I had a haircut scheduled for next month, but I was desperate for color. They didn't want me to get colored and then chop it all off so they offered me a haircut on the spot. Perfect! I wanted to take my graduated lob up a notch so I went for it. I loved having long hair but after the texture changed and half my hair fell out after childbirth, I needed a change. This cut really works with my natural texture and totally pops with my new color. I'm a fan of Balayage color (vs foil application) because it grows out more naturally and you don't get that line by the roots that foil leaves you with. A huge shout out to the amazing Jennifer Luszczak & Jennie Latona for my color and cut. Jennifer is also a makeup artist so she gave me the prefect cat-eye to go with my new look. Thanks guys!

If you have time, like free (and aren't super OCD) you can give L'Oreal a call to get more info on free NYC color and styling. Like all bargains, you have to be open - or you should just pay full price.

L'oreal Professionnel Soho Academy
435 Hudson St, New York, NY 10014

For more info on modeling at Bumble and Bumble (they give a great cut but I hate their blond so I skip them for color) head to their website, bbumodelproject.com. What I love about both of those programs that they are pretty consistent and totally free! No tipping either!
