Pretty in Pink

Over Passover we visited with friends staying at the Waldorf Astoria in Orlando. All I have to say is that it blew the Hyatt Regency that my parents went to out of the water. The grounds were gorgeous and even better, the property connects with a Hilton that features a kid friendly lazy river pool. I didn't see my little ones all afternoon. I dragged my teenage nephew around the grounds to explore and shoot my latest bargainista look. This H&M dress was another 50% off find on the sale rack. It's a smidge big (it's a size 8 and typically in a looser style I would take a 4/6) but I'm a sucker for pink - plus it has the off the shoulder trend which is so big right now.

The problem with being your own stylist and photographer (I usually set up the shots and tell the kids where/how to shoot me) is that you can't walk around with a full length mirror. Sometimes I miss something in the background that kills the shot, sometimes the lighting is off, and sometimes there's nobody to tell you that your shoulder strap fell off your shoulder. Alas, for 99% of the pictures my off the shoulder dress is off-off the shoulder LOL.

The dress is on the sheer side so I'm wearing my bikini under it. I've put on a few more lbs. so I'm not quite ready to walk around poolside sans cover-up. And again, because it has so much material, I needed heels to give me some height and balance the look, I packed my Sophia Webster Lacey sandals (sample sale scores!) because black & white goes with pretty much everything, plus they're pretty comfortable for heels. I know they're supposed to be tied around the ankle but I went up my leg a little to give it a gladiator feel. Added on a few delicate accessories, and voila - another easy, inexpensive summer look.

From head to toe:

  • Earrings: AV Max, sample sale, $4
  • Sunglasses: Moschino, Century 21 Stores, $60 - free with rewards
  • Bikini top: H&M, $7
  • Swim skirt: Jag, Marshalls, $10
  • Dress: H&M, $25 (retail $50)
  • Bracelets: AV Max, sample sale, $10 each (retail $70 & $80)
  • Shoes: Sophia Webster Lacey, sample sale, $95 (retail $695)

It was so hot that by the end of the day my hair and face melted. Luckily all I had on was my Dr. Jart BB cream and MAC Miley Cyrus Viva Glam lipstick or you would have seen a mess dripping onto my dress. If you take care of your skin (I LOVE my Murad!) then you really don't need a lot of makeup, even at 41. I find that the more I pile on, the older I look. Hiding behind sunglasses also helps LOL.

As I'm writing this I'm actually also packing up to head home. Not looking forward to the long drive but we decided not to rush back. I typically only do about 10% of the driving (my husband is a machine and can drive for hours non-stop) but I still need to rest up.

Thanks again to my 15 yr old nephew, B who spent at least 45 minutes shooting this look :)

See you guys back in NY! Jimmy Choo starts Tuesday but I'll probably wait till Thursday for markdowns. I also have to start saving money for Rebecca Minkoff which starts on the 9th...

Greetings from Orlando!

This Passover, my sister rented a house and invited my family to join her and her son - ergo our roadtrip to save a few hundred dollars in airplane tickets. With the price of gas being under $2 a gallon it came out to less than $100 for the 5 of us to drive down (including snacks along the way). It's about a 16 hour drive so we caravan-ed down in two cars (my youngest brother drove down with her) and crashed for a few hours at a rest stop. Normally we get a motel along the way but it doesn't pay to get one at 3 AM when the kids are happily sleeping in the car.

My parents and middle brother flew down and are staying at the Hyatt Regency so we headed over to hang by their pool. Our rented 4-bedroom house has a small pool but my kids like to swim in EVERY pool, the same way I like to shop where ever I go. Sadly, other than a 5 minute trip to Ross for flip flops for my nephew, I haven't been able to explore the local outlets. As any parent knows, it's not called vacation when you have kids. It's visiting or traveling. Vacation can only be sans kids. I'm currently in mommy-mode and I'm at their mercy. No matter, May has many a sample sale on the schedule and I'll be able to shop back in NY.

But let's get back to my outfit :)

I love my local H&M. Because they don't carry the higher end lines, they immediately put returns on the sale rack and discount them to 50% off. If a piece sits on the sale rack (or happens to be there when they are slashing prices) it drops further. This Studio Collection kaftan is currently retailing for $149 but I found it recently for just 30 bucks! Because it has so much fabric, I paired it with my favorite $90 Jimmy Choo Peekabo wedges to give me some extra height and balance the look.

From head to toe:

  • Sunglasses: Moschino, Century 21 Stores, $60 - but free with rewards
  • Kaftan: H&M Studio Collection, $30
  • Bracelet: AV Max, sample sale, $10
  • Shoes: Jimmy Choo, sample sale, $90 (retail $595)

My Jimmy Choos are my favorite summer wedges. I can seriously run a marathon in these. They're tall but insanely comfortable. For me, running in heels is a requisite to motherhood.

Lots of pics this time - can you tell how much I love my new Kaftan?

My photographers for the day included my son, nephew and little miss Ella who enjoys getting behind the camera as well. She like to steal my sunnies when I shoot her if she isn't wearing her own.

Thrifty mommy tip - you can buy brand new swim separates at Goodwill for about a buck a piece, They have brand new pieces from Target that get separated so we mix and match to make our own sets. This bottom is actually from a cheap $3 Children's Place bikini that I got in every size a few years back. My skinny mini 9 year old needs to wear a 3/4 or 5/6 on bottom or it falls off  LOL. My girls can wear their clothing for at least 3 years - a little big, fits, then a little small. By the time they outgrow anything they are seriously sick of it.

Last but not least, because I missed my #freebiefriday on Instagram, I'm making it up to you with a even better giveaway. Picked up a couple of these Kendra Scott Alexandra earrings for less than $20 at Nordstrom Rack (retail $75). Head over to my Insta here to win a pair!

Next week I'll be back in business! The May sample sale schedule is filling up. Excited for Jimmy Choo next week and Rebecca Minkoff is just around the bend :)

For all those who are celebrating - happy Passover! Either way, have a great weekend!

Suno Sample Sale Report & Shoe Score :)

I'm always looking for beautiful designer pieces to add to my closet so on Wednesday I hit the Suno sample sale. I showed up early and a couple people were already shopping so I joined in on the fun.

Your first stop should be the $25 boxes where I spotted lots of tops and a couple dresses.

Here's the price list - other than the Fall and Pre-Fall collection, which is 75% off, dresses top off at $125-$150, tops and bottoms are $75-100, T-shirts are $25, sneakers are $50 and $75 for Nicholas Kirkwood & Loeffler Randall collab shoes. I choose the sandals pictured above and I would have taken the oxfords too (huge trend for fall) but they didn't look quite right on me.

All swim was $20 - they had lots of fun prints :)

So many gorgeous colors and details!

Shoes were mostly sized 37 thru 41.

Sorry so short but I'm in Florida and working off my laptop, Today's the last day of the sale - I wouldn't be surprised if they had additional discounts :)

Suno
Wednesday, April 20th through Friday, April 22nd. 10am-6pm.
260 W 39th St between Seventh and Eighth Aves, 4th floor

Have a great weekend and Happy Passover to all celebrating! Right now I'm off to check out the local Ross and TJ Maxx :) If anyone has any shopping tips/intel for Orlando, please share!
