Happy 4th of July!

Or should I say happy 5th of July. I know it's a day late but as a real person I take my pics on 4th of July instead of setting up fake shoots before. Yesterday Ella popped up the moment she woke up and walked in to my room excitedly and asked the age old question - what am I wearing today?

I encourage my kids to develop their own sense of style (as my mother did for me) so I told her it was up to her, thou I do get veto power. I give Ella carte blanche in my closet because I believe that clothing is meant to be worn and appreciated. She was born an adult and by 18 months she spoke in full sentences, was potty trained and dressed herself  -  several times a day. Unlike my little one who is often covered in dirt, Ella takes care of her clothing and has never even lost a hair clip. I know that if she walks out the door with her Valentino sunnies, they are coming back.

Before I give you a breakdown of her look - can you guess which two items she's wearing were penny finds?

She likes to come to me for ideas so I suggested she start with a white dress, her thrifted Abercrombe vest and maybe a red bandana for a splash of color. I thought she could pull off tying the bandana around her wrist of foot ala Man Repeller but my skinny minnie had other ideas. I can't believe I used to be this tiny too.

Head to toe:
  • Sunglasses: Valentino, Century 21, $15 (back from when their sale was good...)
  • Earrings: Nordstrom Rack, $0.01
  • Vest: Abercrombie Kids, thrifted $4
  • Pin: free Fashion Week swag
  • Necklace: Rebecca Minkoff, sample sale, $5
  • Dress: Calypso St. Barth, thrifted, $1
  • Bandana: Probably $1 - this was mine from high school. I used to wear them as headbands.
  • Wallet: Prada, gift from my brother and future SIL (RV $850)
  • Bracelets: Top: A.V. Max, sample sale, $5, middle: Dannijo, sample sale, $25, bottom: Balenciaga, sample sale, $99
  • Ring: A.V. Max, gifted
  • Sneakers: Coco Jumbo, Nordstrom Rack, $0.01

Ella loves the sneakers because they are are close as she's gonna get to wearing heels. Plus they were a penny :) For now the only makeup she can experiment with is lip gloss and nail polish. I hate when little kids are all done up Toddler and Tiaras style.

She told me that my new Prada was now hers. In truth it would have been the perfect sample sale bag had my giant phone fit in it. Most sales don't allow you to bring your purses inside so I always have a wristlet in my bag with my phone, wallet and credit cards. Her much smaller phone fits inside perfectly.

If you want to look like Ella, you can shop her look here:

She tried to do her nails with the polish I just got in my POPSUGAR box but it's really hard to work with glitter. And yes, seems like this girl is a nail biter liker her mama.

For some reason I can never get a good picture of all of them. #momproblems

Ava wanted to share her look too. She woke up and told me she wanted to be a cheerleader. She pulled out an old Gymboree set that probably cost around $4 back when I used to hoard cheap Gymbo. Costumes were all $4.99 back in the day at their Red Balloon Sale - and you know I always had a 20% coupon. It's funny how my girls have such different perspectives on style. Ava is all about My Little Pony and Ella is more Prada.

This girl really cracks me up.

FYI - Looks like the Target July beauty boxes are going live today - they are not available on the site yet but I heard they can currently be purchased thru the Target app. In fairness I'm not buying either (neither excites me) but feel free to take a peek here for the Fresh & Fabulous box and here for the Simply Radiant box - this round they are just $7 each. These sell out fast so keep checking as they should be live any minute.

Hope you had a great weekend too! I finally finished with my Jimmy Choo dyeing project and I can't wait to share the results. I also put together a roundup of some of my amazing Rack & sample sale scores...so stay tuned!

  1. Ugh your kids are beyond cute. Love Ella's style (although I pray and hope you're not giving her your prada lol) and it's so fun to see how each kid has such a different personality. Your little one puts a smile on my face every time I see a photo of her as well!
