As crazy as it was last time - it was twice as insane tonight. I just got back from the VIP preview for the Alice and Olivia NYC sample sale which was immediately followed by the Gilt City event. A typical VIP event has maybe 50-100 people leisurely shopping. Tonight was the hunger games. People ran, grabbed, and fought to the death for $2,000 beaded gowns and leather jackets.
I'm a little under the weather so I had popped a DayQuil, a Motrin and a multivitamin to gear up for my adventure. I probably wasn't up to my usual competitive standard because I just couldn't LOL. I passed my coat and Balenciaga to my friend to check it for me, and armed with my Ikea tote and camera I made a beeline to the back for the samples.
Sample gowns topped out at $119 and it was $99 for leathers, outerwear and embellished items. Everything else in sample land was $15-59. I was right ahead of the re-seller hoarder girls in line so I knew I had to act fast. I grabbed any coat, fur, leather or dress that caught my eye. Those first few minutes are critical because that's when the good stuff gets snapped up - and I refused to fail as I had last time.
I spent most of my time hiding in the dressing room and hanging out with other friendlier shoppers because once they let the Gilt City group in you couldn't get near the sample area - or back in the fitting room because the line was so long. They only allowed 10 items at a time so you really needed to shop with friends - or make a shopping buddy at the sale. They had people waiting by the stairs grabbing everything that the poor employees were bringing up. I just didn't have the patience. Plus I'm really happy with my fur trimmed coat, $2,000 Jace beaded leather moto jacket and beaded lace cocktail dress. Don't worry, pictures to come. ETA - you can see pics here.
The rest of the space was set up by size. Pricing was based on the retail of the item, see chart below. Prices started at $39, for retail of up to $99, and maxed out at $299 for pieces retailing for $1,300+.
They also had a table for sweaters and another for bags and accessories. I was informed that they had all their stock on the floor but they may be getting another shipment. Samples were plentiful so if you're a size 6 or smaller you may want to be on line first thing in the morning. They also tend to mark down later in the week (if anything is left LOL) so keep your eyes peeled.
Here's a peek inside - I didn't take as many pics as I usually do because it was just too crazy.
I'm linking items that I saw inside :)
