Street Style and Sample Sale Scores.

I love fall because I get to pull out my coats. When I spotted this one on makemechic I knew I needed it! Bombers are all the rage right now but I wanted one with a twist. I'm wearing a size medium and it has a nice oversized fit. Love the longer shape of this one - plus it's a steal at just $36!

Unlike a lot of bloggers, I share outfits I actually wear, as I wear them. Lately I've been on a sneakers kick because it's just not practical to run around the City in heels anymore. That being said I wore this dress and coat to Synagogue over the holidays with my black Rockstuds and a sequin cap - my heels really only get broken out for special occasions these days.

This Tobi midi dress is a great layering piece. It's a little on the thin side very so comfortable and on sale for just $23 right now! I'm wearing a size medium. Tobi sent me a few pieces to try that I can't wait to share more :)

From head to toe:
  • Sunglasses: RayBan, Century21, $8, RV $145 - back when they had 90% off!
  • Bag: Rebecca Minkoff, Sample Sale, $10!!, RV about $200
  • Scarf: Ralph Lauren, my brother left this behind to be thrown out when he moved out of my parent's house so I snapped it up. I think it's cashmere :)
  • Jacket: Make Me Chic, RV $36, gifted (thanks guys!)
  • Dress: Tobi, RV $23, gifted (thanks guys!)
  • Bracelets: Rebecca Minkoff, sample sale, $10 each, RV $78 each
  • Gloves: Carolina Amato, sample sale, $15
  • Socks: Forever 21, $0.49 - I grabbed a few from the sale bin but I wish I grabbed more!

There are tons of sample sales going on this week including the Manolo Blahnik sale on Tuesday but I think I'm gonna skip because I went crazy at Marc Jacobs and Rebecca Minkoff over the last couple weeks. Plus nothing looks like it's gonna be super cheap. I always document my behind the scenes at a sale in my Insta stories so make sure you're following along for my latest updates!

Borgata mini-getaway :)

For some reason my husband gets free room offers at Borgata all the time so for the first time EVER he surprised me by calling my sis to watch the kids and swept me away to Atlantic City for the night. I swear he's really not much of a gambler anymore. His "big" win last night was at a quarter slot machine that he threw some money in while he waited for me to use the bathroom LOL.

So what does one do without kids for 24 hours? Now that all three are in school I have my days free to sample sale and meet up with clients but it's been a good 10+ years since we jumped on a plane and took a real vacation. He booked us at the Water Club (hotel attached to Borgata) because he thinks it's more upscale - plus kids aren't allowed in their pools. As always, the nicer the place, the more they charge you for extras. To use the gym they wanted $15 (I'll just do my T25 at home, thank you) and Wifi was $10 a day, however in the attached Borgata public facilities it was free. So annoying.

We started out at the Wifi-less Water Club pool and after an hour sans social media I went a little nuts. I'm also not much of a sitter or relaxer.

Had to upload this from the main lobby.
Poolside details.

    • Sunglasses: Ralph Lauren, Century 21 (75% off sale), about $15
    • Watch: Nixon Time Teller (retail $180), Nordstrom Rack $30
    • Ring: $20, TJ Maxx - finally got around to getting a replacement ring after loosing mine in the sand on Miami Beach.

As an organizer I pride myself on packing light and efficiently. I had one bag because it was one night. Drives me nuts when people overpack. I grabbed a couple dresses, a couple pairs of heels, a bikini, cover-up, PJs, undies, a handful of accessories and a small makeup bag. If you create a mini mix and match wardrobe when you travel you can never go wrong. There is nothing wrong with repeating!

He also got free Borgata comedy club tickets and even though it was midweek and the comedians weren't too bad. For the occasion, I decided to experiment with this H&M dress I picked up the day before. Probably not the most flattering cut for me but it wasn't terrible and I've been looking for all things Boho-chic.

    • Dress: H&M $24.95 (less 20% coupon)
    • Bag: Marc Jacobs (retail $1295), 80% off at Nordstrom Rack
    • Bracelet: Nordstrom Rack, less than $10
    • Shoes: Rebecca Minkoff, 75% off sale at Century 21

Did I mention I love my haircut?

Once again I pulled out my Kendra Scott earrings from Rocksbox. Use code "shoppinggalxoxo" to get your first month free! My lipstick is one of my new $3.75 NYX lipsticks that I just picked up at the Rack - the color is Brick (a coral-red).

I also brought along my (90% off) Sergio Rossi heels from Century 21 - I thought they would look pretty with the dress but it didn't work with the bag so I saved them for the pool the following day. The shoes are missing a couple crystals and dented on one side but I'll take $1000 shoes for $30 with a few flaws ANYDAY!

The coverup is from H&M last year but they have the same one in different patterns this year for $9.95. Please be kind - this is as close as this 40 year old mama is going to get to a bikini pic...then again ask me again in another 25 lbs.

After a quick swim I changed into another $15 H&M dress and my thrifted Marc Jacobs denim jacket ($25). Yes, this is the black version of my red dress. I also wanted to note I wasn't wearing makeup today (just my new $3.75 NYX lipstick in Hot Tamale) and this is what my new hair looks like when I wash and go.

I spy the Kendra Scott earrings & Rebecca Minkoff sandals again :)

    Love the lace details.

Good news is that after taking all these pics, DH agreed to buy me a "real" camera for my upcoming birthday! I think it comes with the condition that he never has to shoot me again but I'm hoping that's negotiable :)

Tomorrow I have a hair modeling highlight appointment with a new place and a fun cocktail party at night. If I have a little time I'll try to squeeze in some shopping too! Stay tuned for my next NYC adventure...

Century21 75% off end of season sale!

Since I got back from Florida I've been stalking Century 21 daily. I feel a little strange neglecting the Rack and my penny hunting but I'm happy to take a small break and let other bargain hunters try their hand at it LOL.

I used to be happy with my C21 in NJ...until I got called into the City for a casting call on Thursday that didn't pan out - I'll give you more info next time when I get it :) Anyway, the NJ location tends to transfer sale pieces out and I used to think it was to sell the goods elsewhere for more. HOWEVER, I spotted a bunch of pieces that I know my store had - in the City - at 75% off! Don't get me wrong, I found plenty in NJ but the City finds were in better shape and higher end. I guess I know where I'll be going to hunt to see what's left at 90% off :)

Here are some of my favorite 75% off finds from this season so far:

When I asked the bargain-gods for Rockstuds they misunderstood and sent me sunglasses. I meant shoes!!! It's not that I don't appreciate $300 sunglasses for less than $16...but I want shoes, please. Fingers crossed for this year!

This second pair is tiny so they were going to be for my petite SIL...until my 7 year old daughter swiped them. Like mother, like daughter.

As soon as I scored these Pradas for $27 I put them to use! I'm also wearing my new Miley Cyrus MAC Viva Glam lipstick ($16), Yosca sample sale earrings ($25), AV Max snakeskin cuffs ($10 each, sample sale too!), Haute Hippie dress (Nordstrom Rack, $60) and thrifted vintage Claude Montana blazer ($20).

In previous sales they had tons of sunglasses - this round was slim pickins. At least I found a few really nice pairs for less than what I'd pay at Marshalls. While yes, I've found a bunch for a penny at the Rack this year, they are usually not as flattering as my Century scores.

The shoe racks in NJ are messy and missing boxes. In the City they were all neatly organized and mostly in perfect condition. I first spotted these Blahniks in a size 7 and I was disappointed - until I looked over and saw a shelf of Manolos - and some in my size! These babies were less than $100 - that's better than sample sale prices!!! I like that these are a little different, yet still a neutral. I'm pretty well stocked in the shoe department these days so I'm looking for interesting (but wearable) pieces right now and these fit the bill :)

I'd seen some green Sergio Rossi strassed evening shoes at TJ Maxx for $500+ and I've been thinking about them ever since. Most of the Rossis disappeared from NJ so you can imagine my delight when I found tons in my size - especially these blinged out sandals for $87.50. And the best part is that if you download the C21 app there is a $25 off $250 coupon right now to take a few more dollars off! Every bit helps :)

I thought this Save the Queen dress would be a fun LBD with a twist, and for less than $25 it was a no-brainer.

I need to sew back on a few of the pieces.

These Marc by Marc Jacobs platform wedges are really comfortable - and were around $30 after all my discounts. This year is the year of comfortable shoes. Shoe styles are getting chunkier again - plus I'm 40 and I can't do the crazy stilettos of my 20s. These have a vintage 1940s look, and I love the geometric details that make them feel modern. Cheap and chic!

Speaking of Cheap and Chic...I picked up this Moschino silk scarf for $15 for a client. She started covering her hair for religious reasons and the last time she flew in to shop with me we picked out a gorgeous wig for her to wear on dressier occasions. On a daily basis she usually wears this black rag that I'd rather not talk about. We didn't have time to do scarves last time so I promised I would send her some to match her designer wardrobe. I was very excited to find some pretties at 75% off.

I've had DVF on the brain since I watched her reality show to find a new brand ambassador. For the record I kinda knew it would be Brittany from day 1 - she has that it factor. This gorgeous scarf with a Warhol print of Diane retailed for $295 - got her this one for $35 :)

If you don't have the time or patience to shop or organize you can always hire me as your personal shopper/stylist. A lot of my clients actually love to shop - they just know I do it better and faster - and I'm pretty cheap considering the $ you'll save. Message me on my Shoppinggalnyc page on Facebook if you're interested in setting up an appointment :)

I'm a little behind on sharing my thrift finds. I picked up the most beautiful black vintage dress for $8 this week but they left the sensor on. I'll take a pic after I bring it back to have it removed. I love thrifting cheap bracelets - check out my new $6 Marc by Marc Jacobs bangle as well as this no-name gold one for $2. The MJ one even had the price stickers from the Bloomingdales outlet. Looks like it retailed for 98 bucks!

You know me and dresses...couldn't leave this $895 Ralph Lauren black label dress that still had on half a tag for $20! It is a little big but wearable.

I also found the holy grail of thrifting - these Chanel mary janes were $45. For thrift that's on the steep side but they're fun and pretty comfortable. And where are you finding Chanel shoes for less?

The Rack has been pretty slow but I do have to share this 92% off Ted Baker dress - $19.90 from $248 :)

Last night I went to a 40th birthday party so I jumped at the chance to have a little fun. I initially thought I was going to wear a Philosophy dress that I just got at Century but my husband thought it looked weird (men just don't get fashion) so he chose my $1450 Herve Leger "Amber" bandange dress that I picked up for less than $100 at the Rack a while back. I usually don't give him a choice but I was happy to go in either direction. My 8 year old niece was there and took this pics for me so some are better than others LOL.

Pulled out my new $269 Fendi that I just got yellow stickered at TJ Maxx - paired it with my newly thrifted Marc by Marc Jacobs bangle, my trusty 75% off Chanel bracelet and my favorite spiked penny bangle. I'm also wearing penny earrings but I don't have any close-ups pics.

Normally I would have worn heels with a bandage dress but I needed to wear dancing shoes. My Pedro Garcia Talisas that I hunted down on Yoox were the perfect choice. Gorgeous and comfortable!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday :) I'm half-watching the game as I type. I'm not really a sports fan but I keep peeking at the commercials and I'm waiting for the halftime show. Looking forward to Katie Perry!

Hope I don't get snowed in tomorrow - too many deals out there right now...

    Just an average week...

No crazy designer deals this week - it's been slow and slightly stressful. My husband just tried to kick me off the computer. I told him I needed to finish working. He corrected me and said "you mean hobbying? It's not working if you're not making money. Until you do you can't call it work." Sigh. It's just been one of those weeks. And thanks for the support B :)

On Monday I headed to the Rack bright and early because it was shoe markdown day! I'm sure you've seen my crazy photo on Instagram and Facebook. I spent over two hours turning over every single shoe in that store LOL. Paid off!

I also picked up this cute Laundry by Shelli Segal cutout faux leather peplum sheath dress. It looks a little plastic-y for my taste but it was $265 and marked down to $23.90. Do the math and figure out how many pairs of penny shoes I found :)

Not sure why tag reads $148 - it was on their website for $265.

These were my favorite penny find - my new Delman flats :)

The Rack used to have more $1, $5 and $10 items on clearance but they seem to have changed their markdown structure and I'm not to happy about it. Now they mark things down to a penny and pull them from the shelves to send them off to their clearance center. This is the most penny finds I've found in an outing. Last year in kids I think I got seven in a day.

On Tuesday when I went in for men's shoe markdowns I didn't find a single penny item. I think they were more careful as they were a little upset that so many were not pulled the day before LOL. I did find a $5 Ralph Lauren denim moto jacket for my SIL or sister - whoever fits it.

    97% off!

    ****************

Wednesday, I headed into the City to Bumble and Bumble to model for their ponytail class. For some reason every time I go into the City it rains. I got up early, grabbed my umbrella and headed in. When I was on the subway by 14th street I got a ping (love WiFi on the subways!) Bumble emailed me an hour before my class to cancel because some stylists from Chicago got stuck in their airport. They graciously apologized and offered me a $10 product credit if I would rebook. I SAW RED. OK, I actually I just got a really bad migraine. I quickly wrote back asking if they could accommodate me as I just came in from NJ just for this class and I've been a model for Bumble for over 10 years. I was pissed to say the least. My commuting costs alone were more than $10. I quickly walked around Nordstrom Rack in Union Square (I was too stressed to shop or take pictures) then I headed west to BbU. If they were going to cancel on me they were going to have to do it to my face - or just give me more free product than a lousy $10 worth. When I showed up they were so nice and made me an alternate, and luckily I was seated. I think they were a little afraid of how I would react if they didn't seat me - I probably would have lost it LOL. I do have to say that nobody else who got canceled had the balls to show up despite their emails and phone calls :) I probably should go back to Nordstrom Rack and pick up that bracelet I tried on...

My friend D said she didn't get it - it's just a ponytail. Clearly you can't tell from just looking at it but this ponytail took over three hours. Each hair is meticulously put in place. I asked my stylist (I think her name was Luz - she's from Atlanta) and she explained that they have to take this class in order to qualify for an exam given by Bumble and Bumble, and if they pass they can work Fashion Week. I was hoping to run back to Sephora to meet up with Cliff again and play with makeup and take more pics but the class ran so late I barely made it back home in time to pick up the kids from school. Instead I took a few selfies with my phone and my camera in the unisex restroom at Bumble and Bumble.

I like this one because my younger sister told me it made me look half my age LOL. Lately I've been getting a lot of complements on my skin. I do take pretty good care of my skin but it's really my Dr. Jart+ Black Label BB cream. If you haven't tried BB or CC creams yet, march to Sephora and sample as many as you can in your skintone until you find the perfect one. This morning at Nordstrom Rack, one of the empolyees actually asked me if I was expecting (I'm not!) because my skin was glowing. I think it was just the humidity that gave me a dewy look. Either that or she was calling me fat and came up with a really good recovery.

From Instagram - just wearing BB cream and my new Laura Mercier Wildflower lipgloss

And this is why I cropped the other one in so close. A- I have creepy man hands and B- the front is super slicked back which is not so flattering on me. Later I took it down and brushed it out and it looks much better today IMO.

I used to just get free hair cuts at Bb.U but I started signing up for styling to get me out of the house, and to earn free 'hairmiles' which you can trade in for free products. With this visit I had $50 coming to me so I cashed in my credits and hairmiles for a $30 shampoo and a $26 hair primer from their new Hairdresser's line. I'm not exactly sure what a hair primer is but I like that it's heat and UV protective which is perfect for summer. Plus it makes your hair less frizzy and super smooth. These two cost me just $6 and change out of pocket. I used to use drugstore shampoo that I got for free from my couponing days but once you start using salon products it's really hard to go back.

If you're interested in signing up for Bumble and bumble. University Model Project you can sign up here. Please use my name as a reference (Michelle Blashka) so we can both get a product credit :) Did I mention all services are free and they tell you not to tip - so it's really free! They do have occasional classes outside of NY so like their Facebook page to see the latest openings all over the country.

    ****************
I decided to check out my favorite thrift store this week and I'm sad to report I'm still on a slump. I probably didn't need this embroidered linen Tracy Reese matching 3/4 sleeve jacket and strapless dress but I love Tracy - and it was $15 for the set.

May be a bit 'much' to wear together. We'll see...

I also found this fun sequin midi skirt on the clearance rack at Target this week for $8.98

    ****************

Locally there are a lot of consignment stores and every time I think about going, I look online to check their pricing and I'm usually disappointed. I typically find better deals at thrift, outlets or the department stores end of season sales. I got an email yesterday that one local store would be participating in their town's sidewalk sale today, and they were going to have racks for $5, $10 and $20. I figured it was time to visit all the consignment stores in that area :)

Sorry so small - they created this document in word so I copied it into Paint and the jpg came out tiny.

I made the mistake of stopping at the Rack first so by the time I got there they didn't have too much left. I sifted thru their $10 shoes and found these almost-new Repetto ballet flats that retail for just under $300.

I also found these gorgeous Bruno Magli black velvet pumps with the most beautiful golden enameled heel. They are a smidge tight but so pretty (and also $10!) so I'm going to see if I can stretch them a little.

    Love!

If you're in the Ridgewood, NJ area their Spring Sidewalk Sale is going on thru Saturday, May 18th. LMK if you find anything!
