May (Sample Sale) Madness! Notes from 3.1 Phillip Lim and more UPDATED 5/20

ETA 5/20 - just updated with a few details, including the price list. I also heard from a little birdie that they got a new shipment of shoes and menswear today :)

My computer crashed while I was writing so I'm going to try to finish up on my iPad - I'll add more tomorrow - or as soon as I get it working again.
*********

I woke up at 5AM so I could meet up with Shira of A Sequin Love Affair to hit the Phillip Lim sample sale. Last year wasn't too exciting but I needed a day out with the girls :) Unfortunately my 20 minute commute into the City turned into an hour and a half (the George Washington Bridge was literally a parking lot) and instead of arriving a half hour early, I was late. Shira made it in on time but walked out empty handed. I met up with my friend V and we went hunting for deals :)

Be prepared for long lines. They were insane. This is what it looked like just as I was leaving, before they opened to the public. The line spanned the entire block. Insane.

Warning: prices are high. They didn't allow photography so I can't post the few pics I took before they shut me down. They wouldn't even let me take a pic of the price list so I'm gonna give you the highlights. All shoes are $100. Many of them were used but they had tons of new ones too. V got a brand new pair of black booties. I would start there (in the back) before heading to the bags. You have to wait in line to see the bags and they started at $75 for small wallets, $100 for larger ones, $150 for clutches, $200 for small bags, $300 for medium and topping out at $450 for large. I was lucky enough to be there when they replenished so I snapped up my $825 Pashli Mini Messenger for $200 - and V got this super cute $725 Colorblock Mini Pashli Satchel, also for $200.

We admired several clutches/pouches for $150 but nothing was iconic enough to justify the money (especially after all the money we spent at Jimmy Choo).

I almost got this $495 Pashli Small Clutch for $150 but I liked my crossbody for $200 so much more.

Now for clothing. It was a mix of samples and stock - for both men and women. Gorgeous leather jackets were $550, Shearling was $900...no great deals to be had. I admired a few dresses thinking they would be $175. Wrong! Turned out they were considered cocktail dresses and priced at a whopping $400 each. No thanks, I'm good with my Target/Phillip Lim dress that I scored for $11 last year. I found a cute top and thought it was $100. Wrong! Turns out it was leather and $350. I gave up and headed over to the $50 belts. Didn't buy any of those either. I finally just stopped looking at the clothing. Too upsetting.

On the way out I smacked my head on a table (don't ask) and now I have a huge lump in the middle of my forehead that actually matches my new bag LOL. The good news is that the sale is on thru Friday and if they have markdowns it could be worth the trip. I'll be sure to give you guys the heads up if I hear anything :)

Address: 151 Wooster Street, NYC
Hours: W 9-8, Th-F 10-7

After a quick stop at the Rack (uneventful) I decided we were going to get into the Balenciaga sample sale. Last year V was turned away for not being on the list but I was feeling brave and it was the last day in the last hours so the odds were in our favor...and we got in! The bad news is that they asked that I don't share anything on social media. I will say that my 8 year old daughter now owns her very own Balenciaga First bag and if you see something new in my feed you know where I got it :)

XOXO

  1. All the kisses to you for dragging me out there lol.

I am apparently 8 at heart because I am obsessed with that bag. Have decided to wear it all spring with shorts or casual jersey dresses lol.

Between The Sale That Shall Not be Named and our success at Lim, today more than makes up for the crap time at Chloe.

    1. Hahaha lets just call it Voldemort :) And BTW when I told them I was getting it for my 8 year old - they said someone got it for their 4 year old LOL. I'm guessing Chloe wasn't any better tonight?

    2. I didn't bother with Chloe, I was pretty tired, I knew no attractive bags were left, and even if they marked down the prices a little bit it wouldn't even be close to the good time we just had, so I called it a day and went home to decide when and how I would wear everything I've bought over the last few weeks. Then that was too much, too, so I ate two pieces of cake, called it dinner, and went to lay down.

Also, good, I am now 4 years old. I DON'T CARE I AM CARRYING IT EVERYWHERE. :P Btw, I tried to look up that bag, only found the Velo version, which someone was selling, used, for $900, so I think we definitely scored. I know the Velo is bigger/pricier, but it definitely still works out.

    3. Eh, you probably didn't miss anything. I've been googling too LOL and I saw that Velo. I'm gonna keep playing fashion detective to see what pops up. It is super cute and I might wear it too but I didn't want her to wait until 39 to get her first Bal. We were pretty poor growing up so I spoil my kids a little...in my cheap bargainista way :)

    4. 1) you are a great mom, and I think it's very sweet that you got it for her! Your daughters are so lucky heheh. My parents were also super frugal when I was growing up, but that's ok--we learned the value of a dollar, right?

      2. Let me know if you find what this bag is! It looks like the plain bag city mini in nylon retailed for $1325, so probably around that? maybe a little more because of the print?

      3. Dude, I just realized it's also my first bbag! I mean, hell of a first haul, so it was worth the wait.

    5. What a great way to score your first Bbag - almost as good as when I found mine at the Rack :) Will LYK what I find!

  2. So you cant share your Bal haul or how insane the prices were ever? That's a bit harsh - now i want to keep guessing :D
