Say It Aint So! Rent the Runway NJ Warehouse Closing Sale :(

The $10 rack is back!

I never blog twice in a day but I simply had no choice! I noticed an email from Rent the Runway the other day that they were closing their Secaucus, NJ warehouse and you can image my dismay when I saw it started on a Saturday. 50% off the entire store AGAIN! You can see reports from previous sales here and here. The second the Sabbath was over I hopped in the car and sped over to see what was left.

I had 10 minutes to shoot so here are a few highlights. Let's start with the dresses;

Badgley Mischka sequin dress, $53 after discount (retail $475).

Carlos Miele dress, $142.50, retail $2,215.

 Bibhu Mohapatra dress, $113.50, retail $1, 960.

These two were the only Clover Canyons I saw. And before you ask, no Herve Leger dresses this round.  This one was only $33.50.

Clover Canyon dress, $26, retail $385!

This Mark + James by Badgley Mischka sequin dress was just $29.50, retail $495!

Marchesa Notte gold dress, retail 895, now just $70.50.

Marchesa Notte, retail $895, now $70.50.

ML Monique Lhuillier dress, $51, retail $648.

Osman beaded dress, $104, retail $1,796.

Reem Acra, retail $3,500, now just $352.

Shoshanna, retail $385, now $47.50.

Be sure to check for damages. Some are obvious like on this $1,550 Thakoon for $108.

And now on to accessories. Very few bags remain. I spotted this Elizabeth and James bucket bag AGAIN for $57.50, retail $545.

This Loeffler Randall tote retailed for $625, now $68.

I thought I finally found a lucite clutch in good shape but the clasp was a little loose on this one. I think it was Kotur and less than $40.

Both Sondra Roberts clutches were pretty cheap, priced at $33.50 and $23.50.

I've seen most of these jewels before too. Alexis Bittar clip on earrings, $39 (retail $375!)

Anndra Neen bracelet,  $39.5 from $395 - it was missing a spike.

Ella Carter earrings, $10.

Kate Spade necklace, $34.50.

Lots of Kenneth Jay Lane earrings!  The green were $27 (retail $150) and the turquoise were $25 (retail $125).

Lizzie Fortunato bracelet, retail $300, now $40.50.

Lulu Frost, retail $250, now $38.

House of Harlow 1960, retail $100, now $22.

Kenneth Jay Lane ring, retail $88, now $17.50.

If you want to head over, Sunday is the last day (EVER)! I was informed that Rent the Runway is doing so well that they need the space to store more dresses, although hopefully going forward they will open up another warehouse outlet. For now I guess it's back to the NYC sample sale for all of us bargain hunters. Also - they told me that you can't email in orders this time around but honestly the best is already gone anyway.

How to wear a vintage dress.

As a long time vintage lover it seemed it was about time to share my thoughts on how to wear it. Most of my favorite thrift finds are designer vintage pieces. When you're styling them you have to be careful because it's very easy for things to go costume-y. Rule number one is to avoid obvious cliches and dressing in head to toe vintage. This Jack Bryan for Saks beaded caftan that I picked up for about 20 bucks can easily go grandma or over the top. By pairing it with current accessories it creates enough balance to make the look modern enough to wear.

I kept it simple with the shoes, clutch and earrings because of all the detail on the dress.

Because the dress is big on me I needed the highest heels I could find to create as many vertical lines as possible. Plus I'm the shortest of all my siblings so with these 6 inch Christian Louboutin "Highness" heels I'm right up there with them :)

They were refurbs and I never put red vibrams on these.

From head to toe:
  • Earrings: H&M, $3 sale
  • Lipstick: Miley Cyrus Viva Glam, free with Nordstrom Notes
  • Dress: Jack Bryan for Saks 5th Avenue, thrifted, $20-ish (may have been less, don't recall)
  • Clutch: Badgley Mischka, Century 21, $11.88 (90% off sale!)
  • Shoes: Christian Louboutin Highness, Nordstrom Rack, $250

This past weekend was my newphew's Bar Mitzvah (yes, I have a lot of nephews LOL) so we headed to Baltimore to celebrate with my oldest brother and his family. Out of my six siblings everyone except one sister (who lives out of the country) showed up at some point. My brother David loves fashion as much as I do. He just loves his black suits, white shirts, black hats and long sideburns. I'm a little more eclectic LOL. Here is my nephew modeling his new hat that he acquired for his coming of age. He's such a ham.

This is one of my more modest looks (I needed to cover up) so I sewed the neckline together. However, because there was so much material I couldn't close it up completely. Too much fabric/coverage can easily overwhelm you.

Someone on Instagram asked how I could walk in these heels. I said - very slowly LOL. I like to run in my heels (small kids and all) but these are more for pictures than anything else. I have to confess that I had my Crocs under the table just in case...

Would love to hear how you do vintage. Feel free to leave comments/feedback below :)
