NYC Street Style & Comm-ci Giveaway!

Nothing makes me happier than wandering the streets of NYC - even in the freezing cold. These days I'm usually running from sample sale to sample sale before racing home to pick up my kids from school. Every so often I have a spare hour or two to explore so instead of subway-ing to my next destination, I'll make sure to layer up and wear comfortable shoes so I can go out on foot and take in the City. That morning I decided to try something new and wear these amazing Comm-ci leggings. Good news is that I'll be giving away a pair - keep reading for details...

That's not to say I never wear leggings outside of the gym, I just usually do so under a dress. I'm from the school of thought that leggings are not pants. It's not even a modesty issue per-se, but to me it's like wearing your underwear outside in public. It's a personal taste level. If you're okay with that - that's cool. Personally I'm not. I actually don't let my girls wear leggings without a dress or tunic on top. I don't think I would have worn these out with a shorter jacket (and my blue bomber never came off that day) but I decided to go out of my comfort zone and not zip up the jacket - and show a little leg.

Comm-ci leggings are nice and thick (not too thick) and really comfortable. They have six different types - I selected the high waist skinny leggings in black and I'm wearing a size medium. They have a wide waistband (to help suck you in) and the slim fit is really flattering. These retail for $69 and worth every penny. In the past I've purchased leggings at H&M and Target for $10 and I have to say you get what you pay for. They often tear or stretch out after a few wears. The moment you touch these you'll understand. Bonus: code LeHoarder20 gets you 20% off your purchase on their website but right now I'm giving away a pair of leggings (your choice!) on Instagram here.

The last couple times I posted my about my Rockrunner sneakers on Instagram (and shared about TJ Maxx/Marshalls yellow sticker clearance) my photo went viral. What I think is so funny, is that I got a lot of comments about how ugly they are LOL. I understand that mint green lace kicks are not for everyone but as you can see, they're actually pretty cute. I'm guessing it was my couponers who don't understand paying $99 for designer sneakers (even if they retail for $795). To those of you who responded on Insta, I just wanted to make it clear that in no way am I insulted. I just think it's funny.

Head to toe:
  • Hat: H&M, $1 (sale rack!)
  • Sunglasses: Jimmy Choo, Nordstrom Rack, $10 (RV $325)
  • Necklace: Dannijo Nicoline, sample sale, $25 (RV $150)
  • Shirt: Electric Circus, Nordstrom Rack, $3.50 (retail $34)
  • Coat: H&M, $30 (sale rack)
  • Jacket: Make Me Chic, gifted (RV $36)
  • Gloves: Carolina Amato, sample sale, $15
  • Bag: Prada, borrowed from my Mom (RV $2,390)
  • Leggings: Comm-ci high waist skinny, gifted (RV $69)
  • Sneakers: Valentino Rockrunners, TJ Maxx, $99 (RV $745)

Just a note for fellow bloggers or photographers - be careful when shooting outside with a sparkly necklace. My new Dannijo choker reflected off my chin and neck and gave me a sparkly beard.

  2. I'm allll about comfy high waisted leggings! I also wear under a short dress or something... or to work out in of course! Although when I work out, it's usually in leggings meant for that.

  6. haha, "s like wearing your underwear outside in public. " u are funny but it is true it is what I actually think when I see american women wearing leggings just with Top or Tee. specially shiny one. LOL. Living in South Korea, you would never ever see that girls wear leggings without anything, they always have skirt or dress on. But since you have a long coat, you actually good!

  8. OMG I wish I were in New York! There are so many good sample sales that LA is lacking. I totally agree with you about the legging thing. They really shouldn't be worn as pants. As comfortable as they are, I think it's just not really right. Although, I'm kind of torn with workout leggings though. They fit differently and Gigi Hadid makes them look so damn cool.

Anyway, I'm in loveeee with your coat! I can't believe it was only $30 from H&M!

    1. If you can't be in NYC, then LA is the second best place to be for sample sales. I'm all about challenging the rules of fashion but yes, leggings are not pants. And of course supermodels look amazing in them. They look amazing in everything LOL. And then a real woman with a real body wears them and...

  9. I totally LOL-ed when I read "it's like wearing your underwear outside in public".
I do agree with you to some extent especially when the leggings are of a thin material. To me, wearing tight fitting leggings will really accentuate our body curves and having a pear-shaped body deters me from wearing leggings without layering a long dress / top over to cover those unsightly hips & perhaps panty lines!

    1. Hahaha. That's what it is - whether they are thick or thin leggings. But it's more than just body confidence - it's about style and appropriateness.

  10. Adore this casual and edgy look! You nailed it with the rocker tee and the leggings and fabulous lace sneaks. I've been looking for a Rolling Stones tee and can't find one under $100 so yours was such a steal and I am so jealous! I love the street vibe and all the layers. Amazing look! xoxo, Christine

  13. Com ci leggings sounds great! Yes too often the leggings out there are so thinly made you can definitely see through to those underwear lines haha. But it's nice that they're making thicker leggings which is especially useful for the colder weathers here in the east.
Also loving that large prada bag, so cute!

  16. You look so chic, I really love this look. I have been looking for a good pair of leggings for the longest time. I always used to buy them at Forever 21 or H&M, and you are right they tear and stretch so easily. So your skinny high waisted leggings from Comm-ci leggings sound perfect. Haha and I totally agree they shouldn't be worn as pants, it really isn't appropriate. I would totally do the same with my daughter.

  18. That's great advice about the necklace because I'm shooting Thursday with one! Love this look and I think it's amazing that you scored such a deal on those sneakers! I think they're unique and that makes me love them! I don't naturally go to leggings but I have to admit that they do serve a purpose sometimes.

  19. Thanks for the heads up regarding the sparkling beard, but thankfully PS usually can "shave" those off. :) I really admire you for stepping a tad out of your comfort zone with these leggings, while still staying true to your standpoint. I actually applaud that you don't let your girls wear leggings only, but that they need to wear a skirt or the alike with them. Just like you I don't think leggings are pants.
As always, how much you get for so little is amazing!

  20. I am loving this look and how you styled it. Comm-ci leggings are so very thick and so comfortable. I love mine! I think they are good for the gym or just being out and about. I am also loving the sneakers because in New York there is a lot of walking that goes on and they are so needed. haha. I think I need to go back to new York to get in on that amazing shopping.

I love your final look! I also only wear leggings when working out or with a tunic/dress. They look good with your long coat!

  24. I agree with you on the leggings part. I do wear leggings but I would never wear it with a short top or without a cardigan over. I do not want anyone to see the shape of my legs or any other parts for that matter lol. Your outfit looks so comfy, love how you styled the leggings with the cardigan and coat, and that beanie. Also, how could someone say those kicks are ugly? I think they're so cute and I actually love the mint green! Keep on rocking Michelle.

  30. That hooded coat is really something amazing! And I think the sneakers are fun. Also going to enter to win the leggings. I am a HUGE fan of leggings. I must own at least 30 pairs! I mostly just lounge around and gym in them, but I'm not opposed to wear them as pants as long as the shirt is long enough.

  32. This is such a cool and edgy street style and what better place to showcase it than the vibrant streets of NYC! I love that every corner in NY can be a photo op, not to mention the obvious places. I too can't see myself wearing leggings unless it is under a long knit or skirt, these leggings will be perfect under a chunky knit sweater dress.
