Gray Layers.

Decided to pull out a few more new pieces that have been sitting unloved in my closet to share. It all started with this $.99 hat from Zulily. I had $25 in referral credit that was about to expire and I tried to find something for less (so I wouldn't kill the deal LOL) but I'm a sucker for a fur pom pom and couldn't resist. Plus I knew it would compliment my H&M coat perfectly :) From there came my $219 Stella McCartney heart bag, $10 Rebecca Taylor boots & Rosegal denim shirt dress.

When shopping at sites like Rosegal you really have to be mindful of the measurements. I've been doing so well with them that I just assumed a large for my denim shirt dress would be ok - and it's big on top and WAY too narrow on bottom. I would have loved to wear it as a dress but at least it works well open as a layer.

From head to toe:
  • Hat: Maniere Accessories, Zulily, $.99 (after $25 credit, RV $50)
  • Sunglasses: Dolce & Gabbana, Nordstrom Rack, $0.01!
  • Dress: American Apparel, $7.50, Nordstrom Rack
  • Shirtdress: Rosegal, gifted (RV $27.90)
  • Coat: H&M, $30 (sale rack, RV $99)
  • Bag: Stella McCartney, TJ Maxx, $219 (RV $1,065, yellow sticker sale!)
  • Cashmere Gloves: $2, Century 21 - back from the real 90% off days
  • Boots: Rebecca Taylor "Panther", sample sale, $10! (RV $450)

I've noticed that when it's really cold out my face freezes into a grimace. This look was the last one I shot that day (I did two others - see here and here) and there wasn't a single photo with a smile in the bunch LOL. Sometimes it's hard to remember the little things like smiling when it's below 20 degrees and the wind cuts like a knife.

Once again, shoutout to my 11 year old son for braving the cold and taking my pics :)

You can shop my style here:

Speaking of cold, yesterday I braved the snowstorm and hitchhiked my way into NYC (public transportation wasn't running) to check out the Jil Sanders Navy sample sale because I heard they had $50 Proenza and Rochas shoes. Sadly there was nothing left in my size - but it's worth a peek if you're in the hood as I'm sure there will be markdowns. Don't worry - I'll have that post up with my adventure soon :)

  1. Love your heart bag and the layering! I never go by sizing on the asian sites- gotta check those measurements! I think I'll skip reiss because I can't do samples...unless their shoe selection is usually good? Def going to SJP,there's a pair I want so bad!

    1. Thanks Shira! It didn't occur to me that a large wouldn't come close to closing around my hips. It's like a 10 on top and 4 on bottom. Weird.

You look so cute and I know it's hard to smile when it's cold lol Thankfully my photographer is always like, smile it looks like you're trying to kill someone! hahaha
Love how you made the dress work out because it was too small on the bottom. Some of these brands have the weirdest sizing!

  9. Rosegal sizing is tricky, but I've ordered so much from them that I know what to look for and I don't have many issues with size anymore. I love the way you styled this though babe. You look amazing!

    1. Thanks Candace. This was my first issue with them. But yeah, I should have made sure it had stretch or more of an A-line.

  12. Oh thee queen of bargains! How I love your layering and honesty when it comes to how you put your looks together. That's the thing with online shopping, sizes. You never know what you get and although you thought you were getting a dress, it works perfectly this way too! And New York can be quite a hazard (pun intended) when it comes to winter. Actually I realized that when I lived there and realized winter is colder in NYC than it is in Stockholm so layering is important. I'm also envious of you having such a talented son, but at the same time very proud of him being this good at his young age. Imagine what he can do with some more practice and maybe education within photography!!
As always, it's a pleasure to read your posts! :)

    1. Hahaha thanks Thomas - your comments always make me smile. And it's colder here than in Stockhom? Really? So crazy! And it's funny but my son is a bit of a genius with zero creative side. My girls are the creative ones. I'm glad to expose him to something so far out of his comfort zone. If only I could get him to pick up a sport and then I'll feel really accomplished LOL.

  13. You look so incredibly chic in this layered look. Gray is one of my favorite color to style because it pretty much goes with everything. Love the pop of red from your gloves and that Stella heart shaped bag is such a steal!!!

  19. I'm absolutely this look! You always layer so beautifully! I totally feel your pain! I normally always order a medium in Mini Skirts and then got one in that was way too big and another that was way too small! I adore your shoulder bag too! What a fin piece?!

  23. I love how you layered this look. that denim dress is adorable. I know what you mean about ordering from certain companies. It can be hard to know how it will fit or what size you need. I just wish these places had store to shop at. That would make it so much easier. I am loving this cozy look.

  24. 99 cents for the hat! I'm also. Sucker for pom poms, they are just too cute. Speaking of cute, your heart shaped Stella bag...has me with heart eyes over here. I love the way you styled everything and for such affordable prices too. Thanks for sharing the sample sale deals, love a good sale. Ps-you have the best kid ever, how sweet of him to be your mini photographer!
