LeHoarder's Top 10 Daily Necessities

This post is sponsored by L'Occitane En Provence.

As a busy mom & blogger on the go, I'm often asked for a peek inside my bag. Now my that my kids are bigger, I've downsized from my large diaper bags to smaller cross-body bags - and I try to pack as light and efficiently as possible. I like to pride myself as the queen of packing, and I often pack and repack my purse daily. The contents vary depending on my daily activities. For example, when in mommy-mode, I'll often have a couple snacks or extra hair accessories for my girls. But there are a few go-tos, like L'Occitane hand cream and lipstick, that I just can't leave the house without.

I'm going to take you through NYC gal-on-the-run mode. When I'm on my feet all day running around to sample sales and blogger events this is what you'll always find in my bag:

1. Hand cream. I have insanely dry hands. Hand cream is a must-have essential for me. I always keep a tube of hand cream in my purse, on my nightstand, in every bathroom in my house, at my front door....you get the idea. I have to say L'Occitane En Provence Shea Butter Hand cream is like magic. It keeps my hands smooth and moisturized. It's enriched with 20% organic Shea Butter, honey, almond extracts and coconut oil - and smells sooo good. I love that it comes in two sizes - just $12 for the smaller 1oz size and $28 for 5.2oz. I always pop the smaller one in my bag. Be sure to head to Sephora to grab one (or two!) for yourself. Honestly I'm obsessed with all their hand creams. Right now I'm alternating between the Shea Butter, Cherry Blossom, Amande and Lavender. Try one for yourself and you can thank me later.

2. Lipstick. I like to let my face breathe on days I don't have events - not that I wear a lot of makeup when I do. But you'll never find me without a bright lippie in my bag. I can be bare faced but if I swipe on some lipstick, I'm camera ready in a flash. Plus with a Sephora everywhere in the City, I can just pop in and touch up as needed.

3. Sunglasses. My eyes are super sensitive so I avoid eye makeup. My hack is to put on lipstick and sunglasses when I'm shooting and it saves me time and irritation.

4. Flip-Flops. I blew out my knees in my 20s. I'm blessed with good skin genetically but my knees...not so much. I can't run around the City in 6-inch heels like I did in my youth.

5. Tote bag. I always have a tote to carry home sample sale scores, or to shlep around all the stuff that doesn't fit in my purse that day. It's also helpful to take home whatever swag I'm gifted at events. If it's a rainy day I also bring a plastic garbage bag to wrap my goodies so I don't have to go home clutching wet paper bags that fell apart. I just bag everything in plastic and toss it in my favorite giant blue tote.

6. Phone. Seems obvious but I've left the house without it a couple times. Once I was on the bus into the City when I realized I left it at home so I borrowed a stranger's phone and called my husband to meet me at a bus stop - I jumped off and waited for him to bring it to me. It's not just for calling, but I need access to my calendar, social media, and camera. Though if I'm shooting a look I grab my DSLR as well. A phone charger is helpful but not always necessary because some coffeehouses have some to borrow for free.

7. Tissues. I always take a few because I have allergies - and sometimes you get stuck in a toilet stall without paper. A girl has gotta be prepared!

8. Water. I love those tiny kid-sized bottles. I'll even refill it at a water fountain so I won't have to pay crazy NYC prices for a drink.

9. Wallet. I always have some cash, a credit card or two, ID and a Metrocard on me. The cash is very important because there are some places that you can't charge. And if you want to buy a snack like fruit from a street-cart, you need a few dollars at all times.

10. Reading Glasses. This one is a new one for me. When I hit 40 my eyesight started to get a little wonky. I can still see distance perfectly but I misread a price tag one too many times and now I always have a pair on me.

So that's a peek inside my purse! What are your daily bag essentials?

Thank you to Sephora & L'Occitane En Provence for kindly sponsoring this post. All opinions are 100% honest & completely my own.

  3. I like seeing what you carry in your bag. I can totally relate since I am a mommy on the go too. Thankfully my kids are out of the toddler and little kid stage so that I can carry smaller bags. L'Occitane truly makes the best hand lotions ever. Their scents are incredible and so hydrating. They also make the best gifts as well. I think flip flops are a must in NYC for all the walking you people do. I definitely wouldn't be able to wear high heels all day long in the city either. Thanks for sharing all the fun items you carry around in your bag...I always wonder what other people lug around! xoxo, Christine

    1. Isn't the best when you finally put away the diapers and bottles! It took me a while getting used to going out sans stroller - I used to dump my stuff in it LOL.

  4. Yes nailed and definitely the same things I will carry in my daily bag babe!! I cannot leave my house with any of these but specially with the hand lotion since my hands get very dried but I love l'occitane cream is the best.

  5. I seriously need to get back into the habit of keeping a hand cream in my bag because the winter here is doing terrible things to the condition of my hands and cuticles and sometimes it's nice to just massage creams into your hand! Loccitaine products always smell so good too!

  8. It's so fun when bloggers do these type of post that let's us see a little bit into their lives, even if its something as small as what you carry around on your day to day basis!
Haha I was hoping i had more in common with you but i only had phone and wallet for my checklist! My hands are always a little sweaty, so I never have the need for handcreams. And I haven't worn sunglasses for years because I always hated how it made that foundation indent on my nose when i wear it haha!
Other then that, such a fun post, enjoyed this!

  9. I am always looking for a good hand cream. I have insanely dry hands too! 20% organic Shea Butter, honey, almond extracts and coconut oil is a perfect recipe for good skin care! I love that it comes in two sizes!
I am such a lipstick girl! Even if I'm not wearing any makeup, I am usually always in some sort of lip even if it's tinted! Sunglasses are such an essential and my eyes have been really sensitive lately so I feel you on that! I have little ones but HATE carrying large bags so I usually keep a tote in the car filled with all the kid things I could possibly need! I felt like I officially became a mom when I started to carry a full box of tissues in my front seat! lol Loved hearing what was in your bag and going to head to Sephora to check out your hand cream!

    1. I keep stuff in my car to but I'm not crazy enough to drive into the City LOL. Public transportation means I'm lugging stuff around all day, which is why I keep it simple.

  10. what a great post, I actually use same brand for my hands as well and absolutely love it 😍. I don't bring flip-flops with me, it is why I wear sneakers if I walk a lot. I need to learn to bring my reading glasses with me, cuz i am super blind!

  12. Hand cream is a necessity to me as well, since I have naturally dry skin and manicured nails. My phone should probably be in my purse and not my back pocket or my hand, which is the reason it's cracked right now :(

  13. I always wondered what other girls carry in their handbags. I can relate as a mommy but since my boy is no longer a baby or little anymore I carry only small essentials. Hand cream is one of them! I I actually use same brand for my hands and love it, specially the smell. I am in my 40's too but thank god I don't need glasses at this point but I do have my phone and a lipgloss instead of lipstick. I don't wear flip flops as I don't find them very comfortable. And I prefer to have less items in my bag as possible :)

  14. I'm a big fan of L'Occitane, and I've always loved their hand creams. I literally adore their Shea Butter Hand cream and Almond Oil. These are my all-time favourites. I'm trying to keep all as simple and efficiently as possible. So I have not so many things in my purse. Normally it's a pair of lipsticks, a hand cream, a phone and a wallet. Very simple yet very practical, haha! But I'm always very nosy and like to know, what normal people have on their bag :)

My hands are super dry too so I swear on hand cream! I actually have this one too and I've been loving it lately.

  16. It looks like our daily necessities are pretty similar! I have super dry skin so carrying a small hand cream in my bag it's a must, as for lipstick, I can't live without my red one xD. Sorry to hear you can't walk in heels anymore, but it should be fun to carry your flip flops with you everywhere. Wishing you a lovely day! xx

  17. I'm a huge fan of L'Occitane and I've been using their products for many years. I try to switch to other brands sometimes but I always keep coming back. Their hand creams are like magic and they make the skin so soft. I specially like the lavender scent. I even buy them for my mom, she loves them.

I have always one in my car and when I simply want to feel the great sensation of this product I apply it. 23. Thank you Michelle for this thorough post! First of all, my hands are soooo dry all the time too, especially with this dry weather in Denver and being pregnant. I always carry hand cream in my purse. The travel size of L'occitane is perfect and their scents are great. I have the shea butter and cherry blossom, they're my favorite hand creams!
I love your tip on wearing sunglasses with lipstick haha. I never thought of that but it would save me so much time if I could skip the eye make up. I love your pink sunnies here.
